- ch = chain
- chs = chains
- st = stitch
- sts = stitches
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- tr = treble crochet
- inc = increase
- dec = decrease
- sk = skip
- R = round / row
- MR = magic ring
- FLO = in front loops only
- BLO = in back loops only
- CC = change colour
- Ss = slip stitch
- FO = fasten off.
Ex. (inc, 4) x 3, 6 reads as "increase in next stitch, single crochet in next 4 stitches, (repeat this sequence 3 times), single crochet in next 6 stitches.
