A super quick and easy project, ideal for a last minute birthday present.
Materials needed:
DK yarn in yellow and another colour of your choice, plus small amounts of black for embroidering the mouth.3 mm crochet hook
A pair of 6 mm black safety eyes
A keyring
Wire cutters to trim the stems of the safety eyes.
Abbreviations used:
ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st = stitch
mr = magic ring
FO = fasten off
This pattern uses American terminology.
Gauge is not important for this project.
Face (make 2)
With yellow, start with a magic ring.
R1: ch 2, 12 dc in mr, sl st in first dc made.
R2: ch 2, 2 dc in same st, 2 dc in each st across, sl st in first dc.

On one of the faces, insert the safety eyes between R1 and R2. Using the wirecutters, trim the stems of the eyes, so that they don't stick through the other side.
With black yarn, embroider mouth, following the curve formed by the space between the two rounds. If the yarn is too thick, split it in smaller threads.
You can leave the other side blank or embroider some sleeping eyes and a mouth.
Edging and Chain
Position the two faces with their wrong sides together, so that the right side of each faces towards the outside. Tuck in all the loose ends. Look up for the top center point above the space in between the eyes and move one st to the left from there. Attach the other colour going through both loops of both faces.
Ch 1, 2 sc in same four loops and then 2 sc in each set of four loops across. Sl st in the first sc made.
Ch 4 or 5, depending on how long you want your joining chain to be. Remove the hook and insert the ending loop through the chain of the keyring. Insert the hook back into the loop and sl st into the second ch from the hook over the key chain.
Sl st in each ch and then back into the original st.
